Watch Care

Operating guidelines

Crown Positions (Start here by unscrewing crown of the case)

  • Position 0 — Manual winding (crown fully pushed in)

  • Position 1 — Quick-set date (DO NOT USE THIS FEATURE IF THE TIME ON YOUR WATCH IS SHOWING BETWEEN 9PM - 3AM)

  • Position 2 — Time adjustment (hacking seconds)

Manual Winding (Position 0)

  • With the crown fully pushed in, rotate clockwise 30–55 turns to fully wind the NH35 / NH34 / NH36

  • The movement cannot be overwound (built-in protection)

  • Stop winding once resistance increases and the watch is running normally

Time Setting (Position 2)

  • Pull the crown out to Position 2

  • The seconds hand will stop (hacking) for precise setting

  • Set the time, then push the crown back in

Date Setting (Position 1)

  • Do not quick-set the date between 9:00 PM – 3:00 AM (date-change gears may be engaged)

  • Before using the quick-set date, move the hands to 6:00 (AM or PM)

  • Pull the crown to Position 1 and adjust the date

  • Then return to Position 2 to set the correct time

Screw-Down Crown (If Fitted)

  • Unscrew the crown anti-clockwise before setting

  • After setting, push the crown in and screw down firmly but gently

  • Do not force the crown or cross-thread

WHY & MORE DETAIL (TECHNICAL EXPLANATION)

Why Date Setting Is Restricted at Night

  • Between approximately 9 PM and 3 AM, the movement begins preparing to change the date

  • During this period, the date wheel and changeover gears are partially engaged and under tension

Using the quick-set date at this time can:

  • damage date wheel teeth
  • bend the date finger or jumper spring
  • cause delayed or inconsistent date changes

Setting the hands to 6:00 AM or PM fully disengages the date-change mechanism, allowing safe adjustment

Why the Movement Cannot Be Overwound

  • NH-series movements use an automatic mainspring with a slipping bridle
  • Once fully wound, the bridle slips inside the barrel instead of increasing tension

This design:

  • prevents overwinding damage
  • protects the mainspring and gear train
  • allows safe manual winding when required

Hacking Seconds Explained

  • In Position 2, the movement stops the seconds hand completely
  • This allows precise synchronisation to a reference time (phone or clock)

General guidelines

🔒 1. Crown Security
  • Always ensure the crown is tightly secured after setting the time or date.
  • A loose crown compromises water resistance and allows moisture or dust to enter the movement.

💧 2. Avoid Submersion & Extreme Temperatures
  • Do not submerge your watch or expose it to hot environments.
  • Our watches are hand-assembled and modified, meaning extreme temperature changes or water contact can lead to internal condensation.
🌊 3. Water Resistance Precautions

If your watch was ordered with upgraded water-resistance testing:

  • Ensure the crown is fully tightened before any light water contact
  • Avoid hot water, steam, saunas, or showers — heat weakens gaskets and ruins seals

Even with upgrades, we advise no swimming, showering, sauna use, or prolonged water exposure.

🧴 4. Protection From Chemicals

Keep the watch away from:

  • Perfumes
  • Lotions
  • Cleaning sprays
  • Detergents
  • Solvents

If exposed, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth to prevent long-term corrosion or discolouration.

⚙️ 5. Regular Maintenance

Mechanical movements perform best with periodic care.

Recommended:

  • Service every 3–5 years
  • Or replace the movement entirely (common for NH-series due to affordability)

Regular servicing ensures accuracy, lubrication, and longevity.

📦 6. Proper Storage

When not wearing the watch:

  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Keep away from direct sunlight
  • Use your DHWATCHMODS box or a watch case

This protects the crystal, seals, and metal finish.

💥 7. Handle With Care

Avoid:

  • Drops
  • Hard impacts
  • Knocks
  • Magnetic fields (speakers, phones, laptops)

Strong shocks or magnetism can cause accuracy issues or movement failure.

⚠️ Warranty Notice

Damage caused by:

  • Improper handling
  • Incorrect date-setting
  • Water exposure
  • Failure to secure the crown
  • Impact, magnetism, or chemical damage

…is not covered under warranty.
